Chiesa Nuova or the beach?
Overview
Choose upper Positano around Chiesa Nuova if road access and an uphill hostel base fit your trip. Choose accommodation near the beach if most days begin with a ferry or a swim. Neither choice removes all stairs: compare the actual entrance and your daily return route, not just the map pin.

Compare the routines you will actually use
| Your plan | Chiesa Nuova / upper Positano | Beach area |
|---|---|---|
| Arrive by SITA bus | Convenient upper-road arrival near Bar Internazionale | Continue downhill with your bags |
| Arrive by ferry | Plan an uphill transfer from the dock | Closer to the dock; check the property's final stairs |
| Swim each day | Allow for the descent and return uphill | Less distance to Spiaggia Grande |
| Take repeated ferry trips | Add the journey to and from the waterfront | Convenient for early departures and returns |
| Dinner and evenings | Nearby upper-town choices; plan the return from the beach | Waterfront choices closer; confirm the route back to your accommodation |
| Heavy luggage or access needs | Check stairs and room floor before booking | A beach address alone does not prove step-free access |
Two bus stops, two different approaches
The SITA landmark is Bar Internazionale at Chiesa Nuova on Via Guglielmo Marconi. From there, Brikette's final main-road approach is approximately 120 m, then entrance stairs. The photographed directions explain the landmarks.
The local Interno bus stops beside Tabacchi Cafiero on Viale Pasitea, not directly outside Bar Internazionale. From that stop, take the short connector up to Via Marconi before the final hostel approach. Ferry arrivals start at beach level: follow the luggage-aware ferry route, including the local bus or conditional porter options.

Food, evenings and the climb home
Staying uphill does not mean going to the waterfront for every meal. Brikette recommends nearby C'era Una Volta for good-value pizza, and Villa Gabrisa for a special meal with food and a view. See nearby food options and check current opening and menu information.
If your evening ends near the beach, include the climb home in your decision. Check the current local bus service for your date; do not rely on an assumed late departure. Heat, rain and luggage can make the same route feel different. A slower day close to your accommodation can be a sensible choice.
Match the location to the room and your bags
Brikette's female-only and mixed dorms have room-specific bathrooms and terrace arrangements. The private double has one double bed, an ensuite bathroom and a sea-view terrace on the third floor. Use the room photographs and access details to decide whether the property suits you.
Room check-in is 15:00–22:00 and checkout is by 10:00. Post-checkout storage requires guest-app enrolment, receipt of your terms agreement and availability. Storage is free until 15:00; if you return later, your bags are automatically transferred to chargeable porter storage. Read the full luggage conditions before planning a final beach afternoon.
For the wider decision, compare a day visit with one or two nights. Then check your dates on the room pages.
FAQs
Is the hostel 120 m from the beach?
No. Approximately 120 m describes only the final main-road leg from Bar Internazionale. The ferry dock and beaches are downhill, and hostel entrance stairs remain.
Is upper Positano always cheaper?
No. Compare accommodation for the same dates, party size, room type and terms, including any local transport you expect to use.
Which area is better for ferries?
Accommodation near the beach can simplify frequent ferry journeys. Chiesa Nuova suits upper-road arrivals, but ferry trips require a descent and an uphill return.
