Amalfi to Positano Ferry Guide | Hostel Brikette

Amalfi to Positano Ferry — Complete Guide

Take the ferry from Amalfi to Positano's Spiaggia Grande, then plan the uphill connection to Hostel Brikette separately. This guide covers tickets, baggage, boarding and the local bus or porter options after landing.

Travelmar's published 2026 adult fare is €10 one way. Check the live sailing and baggage conditions for your travel date; the boat does not bring you to the hostel entrance.

Quick overview

Choose Amalfi → Positano on the official Travelmar timetable for your actual date. Compare the advertised departure and arrival before arranging onward travel.

  • 2026 adult fare: €10 one way in the published Travelmar tariff. Confirm the current total before purchase.
  • Luggage: A separate €3 tariff applies to chargeable bags under Travelmar's current rules; not every small bag requires an extra ticket.
  • Arrival: Spiaggia Grande, at beach level. Hostel Brikette is uphill at Via Guglielmo Marconi 358.
  • Timing: Check the selected sailing rather than relying on fixed first/last departures, crossing times or season dates.

Why take the ferry?

The ferry avoids travelling along the coastal road and gives a sea-level view of the coast. Its trade-off is the beach-level arrival: with luggage, the climb through Positano can matter as much as the crossing.

Compare the whole journey with the Amalfi to Positano bus route. The SITA arrival at Chiesa Nuova has a different final approach from the ferry and local Interno connection.

  • Choose the ferry for the coastal crossing when an operating sailing fits your arrival plans.
  • Allow separately for boarding, possible disruption and the climb or local connection after landing.
  • Outdoor space, seating and views depend on the vessel and conditions; a particular seat is not guaranteed.

Tickets, baggage and boarding requirements

Use Travelmar's official booking channel or its departure ticket office. Check the sailing, baggage product and ticket instructions before paying.

The transport conditions allow one 45 × 35 × 20 cm bag, with excess baggage charged. You remain responsible for handling and custody. Keep aisles and seats clear.

  • Before boarding: Confirm whether your booking needs a ticket-office visit or boarding document. A phone confirmation alone does not establish permission to go straight aboard.
  • When to arrive: Follow the instructions for your ticket and reconfirm with Travelmar if unclear. Its English and Italian FAQs give different onsite purchase lead times.
  • Availability: Advance purchase is possible; same-day purchase depends on availability. No fixed number of days guarantees a place.
  • Budget: Include any baggage ticket and the Positano uphill connection when comparing transport options.

Where to board in Amalfi

Go to Amalfi's waterfront ferry area and identify the departure operator on your ticket. Ask its ticket-office staff to confirm the correct boarding point for Positano before joining a queue.

Follow the current port signs and crew directions. A nearby private-boat meeting point, photograph or queue is not confirmation of your ferry gate.

  • Have the operator, destination, date and departure time ready when asking for directions.
  • Complete any ticket-office step before proceeding to boarding.
  • Allow time to locate the correct queue with your bags; don't use an old two-minute walk estimate as a connection guarantee.

What to expect onboard

Use the baggage position and seating area indicated by the crew. Keep tickets, essential documents and valuables accessible, and follow instructions while the boat is moving.

Ask the operator about the assigned vessel if toilets, refreshments, indoor seating or boarding assistance are important to you. Do not assume these facilities from a photograph of a different boat.

  • Check the booked arrival time; intermediate stops and operating conditions can affect the trip.
  • Prepare for sun or wind if you intend to use an outdoor area.
  • The coastal photographs illustrate the area; they do not promise a particular viewpoint, deck or seat.

From Positano's ferry dock to Hostel Brikette

From Spiaggia Grande, walk uphill to Piazza dei Mulini and take the local Interno bus towards Chiesa Nuova. Get off beside Tabacchi Cafiero on Viale Pasitea, then walk up to the Via Marconi junction by Bar Internazionale. Follow Via Marconi towards number 358 for the approximately 120 m road leg, then use the hostel entrance stairs. The Interno stop is separate from the SITA stop beside Bar Internazionale.

The local bus reduces the climb but does not remove the pedestrian leg from the pier, carrying your bags or the entrance stairs. The whole route is not step-free. Follow the photographed dock-to-hostel route and final Via Marconi approach.

  • Check the municipality's transport information and its Mobility Amalfi Coast operator link for the current Interno timetable, tickets and luggage rules.
  • Porters: Ask a provider for availability and an agreed quote, meeting point, delivery point, timing, payment and stair handling before handing over bags. This is a separate paid service, not a guaranteed hostel transfer.
  • Walking all the way: Expect slopes and stairs. Judge the route against your luggage and mobility rather than a fixed walking-time promise.

Plan your hostel arrival

Checking-in guests can request bag drop from 10:30, subject to availability. Enrol through the hostel's guest app; the hostel must have received your agreement to the storage terms and conditions. Room check-in is 15:00–22:00. Reception remains staffed until 23:30, which does not extend the check-in window. Contact the hostel if your journey is delayed.

Keep the hostel address and arrival directions saved offline. Read the storage arrangements before relying on early bag drop.

  • Choose a sailing that leaves room for the uphill connection and any delay.
  • Arrange any porter help directly, including how to handle a late ferry.
  • Keep essentials with you if your main bag travels separately.

If the ferry does not run

Check the operating company's current service information before leaving for the pier. If a sailing is cancelled, ask the ticket issuer about the options attached to your ticket.

Use the Amalfi to Positano bus guide to investigate a road alternative and check that the actual service reaches Chiesa Nuova. A ferry cancellation does not establish bus space or an immediate connection.

  • Request a current road-taxi quote if public transport does not fit; confirm pickup, destination and baggage.
  • A private boat also depends on sea conditions. Do not treat it as a guaranteed rough-weather alternative.
  • Use the arrival overview if you are still choosing between airport or coastal routes.

Season and departure choice

Check the operator's dated timetable for the day you plan to travel, especially near a change of season. Neither a month name nor a photograph of calm water confirms that a sailing will operate.

Choose a departure by working backwards from hostel check-in and your onward connection. Weather can affect services in any operating period; a morning or shoulder-season trip does not guarantee calmer water.

Compare the full arrival cost

The ferry ticket is only one part of the arrival budget. Compare these items before choosing the route:

  • Your passenger fare for the selected date and operator.
  • Any baggage charge under the actual ticket conditions.
  • The local Interno ticket or a separately agreed porter service after landing.
  • A quoted road alternative if the sailing is disrupted. Do not assume a private boat or third-party ticket is cheaper without comparing the full total.

Common mistakes to avoid

Use this checklist before leaving Amalfi:

  • Check the direction is Amalfi → Positano and the date matches your journey.
  • Read boarding-document instructions rather than assuming a saved QR code replaces ticket-office formalities.
  • Confirm the ferry queue with the operator; do not navigate solely from an old landmark photo.
  • Keep the final uphill connection separate from the sailing time.
  • Do not confuse the Interno stop beside Tabacchi Cafiero with the SITA stop by Bar Internazionale.
  • Contact the hostel if delays threaten the 15:00–22:00 room check-in window.

What to bring

Pack so you can manage the ferry and the pedestrian parts of Positano without repeatedly opening your main bag:

  • Your ticket or booking details, any required boarding document and identification.
  • A charged phone, saved directions and the hostel address.
  • Water and suitable protection for the weather.
  • A manageable bag with essential items accessible. Book assistance in advance if carrying it on slopes or stairs will be difficult.

FAQs

Can I bring a large backpack or roller bag on the ferry?

Large bags depend on the operator's current conditions and any required baggage ticket. Check the permitted size and handling arrangements before booking; arrange the separate uphill journey in Positano too.

What happens if the ferry is canceled due to weather?

Check the operator's service information and contact the ticket issuer about rebooking or refund terms. Investigate the road bus alternative or a quoted taxi without assuming immediate availability.

Is the ferry good for travelers with mobility issues?

Confirm the exact vessel, boarding assistance and arrival arrangements with the operator before booking. The onward route to Brikette has slopes and entrance stairs, including when you use the local bus; it is not a step-free journey.

Can I buy ferry tickets on the day of travel?

Travelmar offers advance and departure-day purchase, subject to availability. Follow the current ticket-office instructions; no fixed advance-booking period guarantees a place.

How do I get from Positano dock to Hostel Brikette?

From Spiaggia Grande, walk uphill to Piazza dei Mulini and take the local Interno bus towards Chiesa Nuova. Get off beside Tabacchi Cafiero on Viale Pasitea, then walk up to the Via Marconi junction by Bar Internazionale. Follow Via Marconi towards number 358 for the approximately 120 m road leg, then use the hostel entrance stairs. The Interno stop is separate from the SITA stop beside Bar Internazionale. See the dock-to-hostel photo guide.

Are there toilets and snacks on board?

Ask the operator about your specific vessel if these facilities are essential. Do not rely on a general fleet description or a photograph to establish onboard facilities.

What's the best time to take the ferry?

Choose a currently operating sailing that allows time for boarding, the uphill connection and hostel check-in. Neither morning travel nor a particular month guarantees calmer seas.

Do I need to print my ticket or can I show my phone?

Check your ticket's current instructions for printing, collection or a boarding document. Travelmar's transport conditions include a ticket-office step for online and return customers; do not assume a phone confirmation permits direct boarding.

Where exactly is the Amalfi ferry pier?

Head to the waterfront ferry area and have the operator confirm the boarding point for your Positano sailing. Use its current port signs and directions, not a private-boat meeting point or a universal turn-right instruction.

Can I store luggage in Positano if I arrive early?

Checking-in guests can request bag drop from 10:30, subject to availability. Enrol through the hostel's guest app; the hostel must have received your agreement to the storage terms and conditions. Room check-in is 15:00–22:00. Reception remains staffed until 23:30, which does not extend the check-in window. Contact the hostel if your journey is delayed. Read the luggage storage guide for the full conditions.
