Interrail/Italy Rail Pass: Amalfi Coast
Use your rail pass to reach Naples or Salerno, then plan a separate connection to Positano. Positano has no railway station. A pass, a seat reservation and a local bus or ferry ticket are different purchases.

Check the operator before reserving
Use Interrail's Italy guidance and its journey planner for your exact train. A train appearing in a general search does not itself establish pass coverage. If choosing Italo, check its own ticket price rather than treating a reservation supplement as the ticket.

Choose Naples or Salerno by the onward connection
Via Naples, continue with EAV to Sorrento, then a SITA bus to Positano. Allow time to change platforms or stations, queue and handle your bag.
Via Salerno, compare a date-checked ferry with the land route through Amalfi. Check the actual departure pier, the transfer from the railway station and weather notices. The Rome route comparison explains these onward choices in detail.
Use a travel day where it helps
Compare the cost of a pass day plus reservations with a point-to-point ticket for the same journey. Coast-only days may not require a mainline train at all; do not assume a rail travel day pays for local buses or ferries.
Check the return connection before choosing your stay length. One or two nights in Positano changes the time available between journeys. At Brikette, check-in is 15:00–22:00 and checkout is 10:00. Compare rooms for your dates, and contact reception before travel if your planned arrival is late.

Does my pass take me all the way to Positano?
No train reaches Positano. Plan the mainline train and the separate local connection, checking each operator's current ticket conditions.
Is a pass always cheaper?
No. Compare eligible journeys, required reservations and the pass price against the tickets you would otherwise buy. Your route and dates determine the result.
